Aligning your long term goals with your job specifications can be the deciding factor of whether you stay in your role or look for another job. Adjusting your career can occur if there is no room for manoeuvre in your current position.
Not only is it important that your job is progressive and rewarding but it is also important for a role to be self-satisfying and gratifying for your personal as well as your professional life. Here are our top tips for ascertaining if it’s time to leave or how can you improve your current position:
Honesty: For any company, their most valuable values include honesty and transparency; understanding their employees and reflecting their ethos by communicating effectively with their employees. Talk to your senior and explain how you are feeling, how you would like to progress and how you need their help to take you to that next level. Remember to be pro-active and sincere in your approach – your aim is to get constructive feedback which equally, could be the deciding factor of whether you stay or leave.
Engage: Employee engagement is imperative for any company to succeed and excel. Understanding their employees, integrating their thoughts and action their suggestions can make or break the company structure and the dynamics of their workforce. If there is a considerably weak internal communication feed, suggest ways to improve the channels, liaise with the Communications team and provide suggestions to your seniors. Companies want to see that you are innovative and productive – give them something to make you stand out from the rest.
Training: You may have accumulated all the training certificates and attending the endless half day sessions at spurious locations but that does not mean that you have learnt everything there is to know. Research other areas of training which could enhance your role and give the details of the courses to your manager. Provide a reason why you should attend, what it could do for your role and if they could fund the fees under a conditional written agreement.
Drive: There is nothing worse than turning up for a job which you have no excitement for. Ask yourself why you applied for the job in the first place. What was your initial enthusiasm based on and can you rekindle it? If the answer really is no, then find a role which reignites everything you felt when that company said yes!!
